Envelope1976 was launched in 2018 in Oslo, Norway, with the aim to push for a more sustainable fashion industry.
1 DESIGN MADE TO LAST
Envelope1976 is all about creating timeless designs, to be worn in multiple ways. Our collections consist of seasonless and long lasting items, made in carefully selected materials. Designing for longevity, with use of more responsible materials, is our most important way of reducing our environmental footprint.
2 RESPONSIBLE SOURCING
We are always looking for suppliers, manufacturers and collaborators that share our vision in terms of sustainability. All our suppliers have signed our Code of Conduct, based on internationally acknowledged UN and ILO conventions.
We are currently producing our garments with suppliers in Portugal, Italy, Turkey, China and India.

3 MATERIALS
We aim to only use materials made out of natural fibers, that are renewable, biodegradable and long lasting. Read more about our selected materials below.
We prefer to use natural pigments when dyeing our fabrics and materials, and strive to avoid any use of chemicals.
4 WRAPPING
We wrap our garments in recycled material in advance of shipment, and encourage the end consumer to recycle the waste material again.

Envelope1976 was founded with the desire to create and promote a more sustainable concept, with a focus on minimizing the brand’s footprint and inspire for a more sustainable way of living. We will always keep looking for more sustainable options in sourcing, planning, production and shipping. We work to encourage and inspire end consumers to take their environmental footprint into consideration when purchasing clothing.
Our fascination for minimalism is key. For us, it is all about creating seasonless garments in durable materials that can be worn in various ways. There is ”no one way” to wear ENVELOPE1976, and building a timeless wardrobe is essential for our way of thinking sustainability.
MATERIALS
LEATHER
Our leather styles are made from vegetable tanned, chrome free leather, to minimize use of chemicals in the dyeing process. All leathers used are either from lamb or sheep, and are always by-products from the food industry. We never use exotic leather.
To best care for your leather garment, spot clean with a damp cloth if needed, or deliver to dry cleaning at a leather specialist. Hang to ventilate when not in use, and avoid direct sunlight.
SILK
Silk is a natural fiber with the potential of circularity. The silk we use are certified by Oeko-tex standard 100, to make sure the fabric has a no harmful substances. OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is a worldwide, independent testing and certification system for textile fabrics.
Silk fabrics are delicate fabrics, and should be handled with care. We recommend to gently steam your garment or hang to ventilate after use, and keep out of direct sunlight to best maintain the color. If washing your silk garment, we recommend using a washing bag, and to wash at low temperature with a mild detergent meant for silk fabrics.
ORGANIC COTTON
Conventional cotton is one of the most commonly used fibers in the fashion industry, and are extremely water and chemical demanding. Highly toxic substances like fertilizers are applied, and most cotton is currently being grown conventionally. When growing organic cotton, the use of toxic chemicals is eliminated, which is considered better for the health of both people and soil.
The organic cotton we use has been certified by Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
WOOL
Wool is natural, renewable and biodegradable.
Wool is easy to care for, and we recommend to hang to ventilate after use, in order to wash it less frequently. If washing your wool garment, wash at 30 degrees or colder, with a low spin setting and mild wool detergent. Dry flat to maintain the shape.
CASHMERE / RECYCLED CASHMERE
Many of our knitted garments are made from cashmere, a soft and luxurious wool material. As recycled cashmere can be prone to pilling, we use a mix of new and recycled cashmere, to ensure longevity in the garments.
Store your cashmere garments folded when not in use, to maintain the shape. Any pilling can easily be removed by a pilling comb.
LLAMA
Llama wool has a soft and luxurious handfeel, and is highly durable. The llama wool we use is undyed, meaning less chemicals have been used in the process.
CUPRO
Cupro is a regenerated cellulose fabric, made from cotton waste. It’s made out of by-product from the cotton industry, the tiny cotton fibers too small to spin. Our cupro fabrics have been dyed without use of chemicals.
LEFTOVER MATERIALS
Leftover fabric is fabrics produced for a collection that was never used due to a flaw in the fabric, overproduction by the textile mill or that brands overestimated their needs. Brands often keep their excess fabrics for a few seasons, but it might end up at a landfill later.
The challenge, but also the beauty of using leftover fabrics is that we don’t find large quantities of any fabric. This means that all styles made of deadstock or left-over fabric will be made in limited quantities only. We think this is a great way of turning something considered waste or less worth, into something exclusive and worthy. Use of leftover fabrics is also an efficient way to reduce waste in the fashion industry.
RECYCLED POLYESTER
Recycled refers to fabric upcycled from garments/waste.
Polyester is a synthetic oil-based fiber, known for its strength. As we do not want to bring any new polyester into this world, we strictly use recycled polyester for our swimwear styles. Our swimwear fabric has been certified by the “Global Recycled Standard”.
